Winter Resident Profile -

Kelly Rathbone - 2009 Howard Kottler Funded Winter Artist-in-Residence

My sculptures are surreal documentations of my life, thoughts, and feelings. They make up my personal "cabinet of curiosities."

I was raised with a strong foundation in Christianity. This fueled my interest and focused my attention to our "vices" that we as human beings struggle with, and our search for significance and salvation.

Some things that I choose to explore through sculpture are: The power of religion and the parallels between its iconography; the ultimate, inevitable death of life on earth; the emotions that evolve from the relationships we establish and develope throughout our lives; "beauty" and the dominent view of idealism that transcends cultures.
