K12 Teacher Workshop with Karen Orsillo

Join artist Karen Orsillo to explore adding color to clay in order to create eye-catching patterns and gradations. Demonstrations will include methods for inlay, laminate, and solid block construction. Participants will have the opportunity to try their hand at these techniques with guidance from Karen. Methods of making and working with colored clay covered in the workshop will enable participants to gain the necessary skills to create small forms from colorful slabs and continue on to more complex patterns and designs. The group will also discuss firing and glazing choices.

About Karen

My love of working with clay began in the late 1960’s. I received a BFA in ceramics from the University of Massachusetts in 1977. I have explored so many different ways to work with clay – and I enjoy it all – but in the mid 1970’s I discovered colored clay. This eventually became my main focus. For the past forty years I have been sharing my passion for clay through teaching classes and workshops as well as showing my work in galleries and at shows.
