Expressive Figures with Michelle Solorzano

Solorzano Soñando Despierta

In this workshop, Michelle Solorzano will teach participants how to sculpt a half-life-sized figure in their pose of choice, ranging from stylized to naturalistic. Starting with sketches and photo references, participants will learn how to create reusable templates that can be applied to any figure or form and use slab-building techniques to construct the forms. Once assembled, Michelle will teach how to use additive methods to refine facial features and muscles and surface decoration techniques to explore story, idea, and personal narrative.

Solorzano holds a BFA in Painting and Ceramics from the State University of New York at Potsdam and an MFA in Ceramics from Indiana University’s Eskenazi School of Art, Architecture + Design. Now based in California, Solorzano recently completed a long-term residency at the American Museum of Ceramic Art (AMOCA). She is currently an Artist in Residence at Laguna Clay and an Adjunct Ceramics Professor at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona.
