Summer Residency Overview

Watershed’s summer residency sessions provide time and space for artists to delve into their practices and make new connections. During a residency, artists work independently or collaboratively in Watershed’s large open-concept studio. More like a retreat than a workshop, the residency offers uninterrupted studio time in the company of fellow artists and makers.

Residency sessions are organized by artists who propose a session theme related to clay and recruit four to eight other artists to anchor the residency with them. The balance of participants in a session register online, drawn by an interest in the session theme. Once in residence, all artists (up to 16 total) work alongside one another in the studio. Outside the studio, they enjoy delicious farm-to-table meals, comfortable accommodations, and access to Watershed’s 54 acre property.

Summer residencies are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Visit the housing and fees page to review the costs of attending a residency. For those interested in applying for merit-based or need-based financial assistance, the yearly application deadline is February 15 with awards announced in mid-March.

2020 Summer Session descriptions and registration forms will be posted in December. To be notified when registrations are live, subscribe to Watershed’s monthly e-newsletter.
