Join us! Watershed offers several volunteer opportunities during the spring, summer and fall months. See below for details.
Annually, during the last two weeks of May, a crew of dedicated volunteers trade labor for time and space at Watershed. In exchange for free studio access, room and board, a small group of volunteer artists work approximately six hours each weekday for Watershed. Work includes repairing and cleaning studios and equipment, landscape and grounds maintenance, and cleaning residential building interiors and exteriors. Evenings are free for studio time or for exploring midcoast Maine.
Watershed works with volunteers to provide jobs that are appropriate for their level of experience and interests. Teamwork and collegiality are extremely important to the success of Pre-session. Volunteers should be aware that most tasks require physical exertion and/or exposure to nature and the elements. Volunteers should come prepared to work outdoors in all kinds of weather. Specialized skills such as carpentry and general building maintenance, grounds keeping, and cleaning are highly desirable.
Applying to Pre-Session is easy. Simply fill out the application, provide short answers to the questions, and information for two references. In the interest of offering this opportunity to as many artists as possible, Watershed gives preference to applicants who have not participated in prior Pre-sessions.
- 2019 Pre-Session Dates: May 19 to 31
- Annual application deadline: March 31
- Applicants will be notified of acceptance by mid April.
*There is a $10 non-refundable application fee to apply for Pre-Session.APPLY
Watershed welcomes volunteers to help with operations during Salad Days, our annual summer celebration and fundraiser. Salad Days takes place the second Saturday in July each year. We need help with everything from assisting in the kitchen and running food outside to directing parking and greeting guests. Volunteer sign ups are accepted every year from May-early July.
