Located approximately 50 miles north of Portland, Maine, Watershed’s 54-acre campus looks out on neighboring farm fields. -
The campus has many wooded walking trails filled with ceramic sculptures left by past Watershed artists, creating an ever-changing sculpture trail. -
Watershed's new Windgate studio has 7,500 square feet of space with abundant windows for beautiful views and natural light. -
The open floor plan gives resident artists flexibility—allowing for both independent and collaborative work. -
While Watershed residencies do not involve formal instruction... -
...the space encourages participating artists to exchange ideas and offer each other feedback and support. -
The studio is equipped with canvas-covered tables, chairs, a variety of wheels . . . -
. . . a dedicated plaster room, slab rollers, and more! -
The well-lit spray booth is convenient for glazing large pieces . . . or the occasional photo shoot. -
Residents select from a large inventory of dry materials in the well-ventilated glaze room. -
The kiln shed is located adjacent to the studios. -
It houses two wood kilns, two gas kilns, a soda kiln and multiple electric kilns. -
Many sessions involve group firings organized by session participants. -
Many residents choose to walk the sloped gravel road between the cabins and studio. -
Resident artists are housed in modern-yet-rustic cabins. -
Artists can choose single or double-occupancy cabin rooms, with private or shared bathrooms. -
The cabins look out over Watershed's woods and fields. -
New in 2024, the Commons is home to the kitchen, dining room, lounge and library, patio . . . -

Summer residents eat together, enjoying conversation and delicious food. -
Artists occasionally organize outdoor banquets. -
And exchange handmade tableware after the meal. -
The Joan Pearson Watkins House holds Watershed's administrative offices, gallery, and retail shop -
The rolling fields behind the House provide ideal space for temporary installations. -
Straw's farm— which raises cows, pigs, chickens, and sheep — is right next door! -

Watershed is ideally situated close to many of the attractions that make Maine “Vacationland”. -
Maine's rocky coastline, beaches, lighthouses and limitless nature walks are within a short driving distance.
